Unused images

I decided that I did not want to use the following images, because initially I wanted to do a college magazine based on music, therefore I captured the following images. However, when I changed my mind and chose dance instead, the images were irrelevant.

I did not use this image because the I feel that the quality is really poor and would not look effective towards my magazine production.

In addition, i decided not to use this image because again the
quality was not to a good standard.

LLIAR analysis of magazine front covers

Using LLIAR

Language-
The text all over the cover is presented in a colour theme, consisting of blue and black, with a bold, red masthead. These colours contrast well with the background and allow the reader to understand the text easily. The masthead 'College' is presented larger than the rest of the text and is in bold font. This makes it very clear what the magazine is about and allows the masthead to stand out and grasp the readers attention. All of the text featured on the page, relate to the target audience of teenagers and college students. For example "She's 15 and pregnant" this feature will interest the readers attention because they are the same age. This shows that the magazine is aimed at a teenage audience. Moreover, the featured text around the main image, helps identify what the magazine articles will be about and will entice the reader to want to more. Such as "He better hope they serve beer in hell", this persuades the reader to be curious and what to find out who the article is about. The mid-close shot of the model, lets the reader identify that she is smiling directly at the camera, this can show that she is happy and enjoying college. In addition, because she is faced towards the camera it makes the reader feel like she is addressing and including them. The background image is light and green colours, this helps the text stand out. However it also suggests that she is on a college campus and sets the scene for the magazine. The date and price is a compulsory connotation on every magazine and they are both placed on this cover. The date is positioned at the top of the magazine, so that the reader can easily acknowledge it. As well as the price being allocated next to the barcode and is in small print, so that it doesn't stand out as much as the other information; although it is highlighted a blue colour so that the reader can identify how much the magazine costs.

Ideology-
The ideology of this magazine is to be interesting and can relate to college students and how it will attract the teenage/target audience. However, it is also seen to be orderly and smart, reflecting the ideology of college itself. I think the magazine presents this by the layout of the cover being well structured and organised; so that it appears professional and aesthetically pleasing to the reader. As the main image is of a female model, this could suggest that the magazine is mainly female dominated, however the text displayed on around the main image, both male and female perspectives that will attract the male audience also. The model is dressed very casually and appears very relaxed. This shows that college is a relaxing environment and also that the magazine is quite relaxing. Also, because the model is smiling it shows that she is having fun and enjoying college.

Institution-
College magazine is the ultimate, uncensored daily guide to college. It is written by students and is aimed for students. University of Maryland graduate, Amanda Nachman 2007, founded 'College' magazine during her senior year. The target audience for the magazine is aimed for both students, who are 16+ and students parents. This is because the magazine is about College and features information that is relevant to them. Moreover, the price of the magazine is "100% free", this is great for students, because they do not have to pay any money towards the magazine, and some teenagers wouldn't of wanted to pay a lot of money for it.

Representation-
The model on the cover of the magazine is suitable for the genre of the magazine, as it is a female student, who appears to be in her teenage years, therefore can relate to the audience. Because she is smiling, she gives the impression that college is great and that she is having fun. This persuades the audience to feel like college is a happy place and gives a positive vibe about college. In addition, the background colours are greens and portray the image of a college environment. In comparison to the model who is wearing bright red, this is so she can stand out against the background.

Language-
The overall text on the cover is presented in a colour theme of yellow and white, against a dark background. This allows the audience to be able to read the text very clearly and understand what the magazine is advertising. As well, the masthead is large and bold, therefore it stands out; "college" also easily identifies exactly what the magazine is about. All of the text featured around the main image relate to the target audience of teenage students and are all relevant to the purpose of the magazine. For example; "why we love blackberries and why they are the rage on campus". This is relevant because most teenagers love their phones therefore it will attract their attention, as well as the mention of "campus" will relate to students.
